Success tips!
"Work only what you've been paid for" - I've heard this line a lot more than needed from a number of people. I don't think its a wrong approach to careers and goals, but I don't think it's right either! There are many people out there with the same attitude. I call them being lazy. Doing the amount you're expected to has become a norm and its nothing new. Many people do that. There are very few who go the extra mile.
Sometimes I think I am crazy and think too much. I plan before I go to sleep, I don't need an alarm clock to wake me up at any time I want (be it 4am in the morning), if I am asked to give my 100% at something - I purposely give my 200%. For me, I've taken hard work for granted. I make sure I reach work on time if not early. I try to post cards to friends and family to stay in touch and waking up every weekend at 6am is not a big thing for me. I just do it. In fact, I get angry if I wake up at 10am on a Saturday morning. It feels like a waste of my day.
Where has all this gotten me? May be no where and may be far ahead than those of my age. I want to grow. At work as well as in my personal life. I want to learn, although I get easily distracted if I am reading a book or article. I love to force myself to do things, When I was in high school I hardly studied. But I had committed to teaching those who want to learn that I was compelled to skim through my text books helping them solve their math problems. Unknowingly, this way I kept myself updated with the syllabus.
Within a year at work, I was promoted from a Creative Coordinator to a Manager. Now I lead a team of seven people who work for my projects. Its no miracle. Hard work pays off folks. Go the extra mile and you will see the world from a different point of view, because everyone else will be far below and in my terms... lazy.
