KING OF THE FOREST BUT AN EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD

The Hornbills

Many of us are not aware of the different species of flora and fauna hidden from the naked eye and maybe this is one of the reasons why we dont bother preserving nature. One of the beauties unknown to many of us is the Hornbill. Heard about them?

The Hornbill is about the size of a big vulture and weighs more or less the same as a vulture too. They have a long beak that helps them snack on fruits and mice. These birds are further gifted with a massacre that appears to be very heavy but in reality is hollow and meant to protect the birds head from injury.

Now, as mentioned, these birds eat fruits and mice. Nothing more nothing less. Fruits are easily found and craved by this creatures while mice is eaten to top up the protein in the body especially for pregnant (female of course) Hornbills.

The most eye catching feature of the Hornbill is their characteristics. Hornbills are known to be very very loyal creatures (something that we all humans are trying our best to master). Once an Hornbill starts to mate, it will continue mating with the same Hornbill for lifetime. Now lets say if the male Hornbill dies due to an attack by the predator or due to an accident, the female Hornbill will never mate for life with any other make Hornbill. Furthermore, when a female Hornbil is pregnant, its the duty of the male Hornbill to find enough food for this "wife" and "kid". And during the food search if the make Hornbill dies, the female Hornbill will not take food from any other stranger male Hornbill or for the matter of fact from any other animal or bird. She would instead choose to starve herself and her baby to death.

Okay so if you come across an Hornbill, how would you know for curiosity sake (mainly in our female genes) whether the Hornbill is a male or female. Thats very simple. You look at the colour of the eye. The female Hornbills have the usual black and white eyes while the male Hornbill would have blue and red eyes.

There are many beautiful habitats out there in the wild that are waiting to be discovered and loved. Deforestation is destroying many beautiful gifts God has bestowed upon us. Lets do our share by simply practicing the 3 Rs. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. One has nothing to lose yet a lot to gain from the habit.
